Easier To Tow

The way a fifth wheel is hitched up to its towing vehicle is inherently more stable than other types of trailer hitches. An anchor is installed into a truck bed and the fifth wheel hitch comes down from up above to lock into the anchor. This allows for more stability and less trailer sway than you’d find with a typical bumper-pull hitch. The fifth wheel hitch is also much stronger, which means that your fifth wheel can be larger and heavier than other types of trailers. Once you’ve done this hitching a few times, you’ll be a master and can even do it by yourself.

The one caveat here is that you’re limited in the type of towing vehicle you’ll need. A truck bed with sufficient space to install the anchor is needed. Your truck must also be very powerful in order to handle the higher weight of the fifth wheel behind it. So if you don’t already have such a truck and aren’t ready to buy one, a fifth wheel might not be the right option for you. But if you’ve already got the truck, then it’s very likely that its manufacturer has a specially designed fifth wheel coupling that you can have installed!
