Cooking In Your RV
There’s no better way to bring home out on the road with you than in an RV, but what about home cooking? Even the best-equipped RV kitchen out there still has limited space and appliances, so making your favorite dishes can seem daunting. We here at Sunny Island RV want your meals to be as great as the vacation itself, so we decided to put together these RV cooking tips. If you want more RV living advice, or you’re on the hunt for a new RV, contact our store in Rockford, Illinois, today!
Planning Before The Trip
One of the best ways to make cooking on the go easier is to plan out your meals in advance. That means the three major meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—as well as any and all snacks. This ensures you know exactly what foods and ingredients you need, how much of each is necessary, and what storage you’ll need to make it work. Try not to overpack, but balance that space-saving with the acknowledgement that we all get a little hangry sometimes. Planning for leftovers can help alleviate the storage constraints of an RV pantry, and foods like chili are classic camping meals and easy to heat up the next day!
Cook Less, Eat Out
Naturally, another way to fill in the gaps in your meal plan is to just plan on some takeout. With the pandemic, you won’t want to go out to eat, but it’s safe enough to order ahead of time and just pick up your meal and go! No matter where you go, there are bound to be some local places that serve incredible food. You can also plan on small meals that don’t require much or any cooking, like a breakfast of granola and yogurts, or a nice big salad for dinner.
Cooking Methods
Whether your RV has a stove and oven or not, there’s limited space for cooking in that kitchen. One way to get around that is to bring along your own cooking equipment! Naturally, grilling and campfire food is an essential part of any camping trip, so bring along a portable grill for some nice burgers or grilled veggies. You can also bring along a pressure cooker or crockpot, which make incredible one-pot meals and involve little to no cleanup at all.
The crockpot, or slow cooker, is great for stews, chilis, taco fillings, and more, allowing you to fill your RV with delicious smells over a few hours of cook time. Pressure cookers or instant pots can do much of the same, but usually take only a few minutes of actual cooking time. Both save space and make cooking easy!
We hope these tips make your meals as memorable as the rest of your trip! If you want to know more, or if you’d like to see the RVs we have for sale, contact us at Sunny Island RV. We proudly serve the people of Chicago and Naperville, Illinois—let us serve you today!
